PECULIARITIES: THE UNCELEBRATED THREADS OF OUR TAPESTRY

By P Mohan Chandran

Have you ever found yourself irked by the quirks of those around you? The colleague who hums incessantly, the friend who can't stop fidgeting, or the partner whose snoring disrupts your sleep? But what if these very peculiarities, the ones we often dismiss or even resent, are the threads that weave the rich tapestry of our memories?

In the vast expanse of human existence, it's the peculiarities that make each one of us unique. These quirks, often seen as flaws, are the very essence of our individuality. Yet, while we're quick to judge and quicker to be annoyed, we seldom realize the weight these peculiarities carry until they're gone.

Imagine a world where everyone was the same, where peculiarities were ironed out in the pursuit of perfection. Would it not be a dull, monotonous existence? It's the quirks, the idiosyncrasies, that add color to our world, that make our interactions memorable, and that give depth to our relationships.

Why then, do we wait for absence to make our hearts grow fonder? Why do we let the silence left behind by a departed loved one amplify the very sounds we once wished away? The snoring that once kept us awake becomes the lullaby we yearn for. The incessant humming we found annoying becomes the melody we miss.

Isn't it ironic that we often remember people for the very traits we once found bothersome? It's as if, in their absence, these peculiarities transform from minor irritants into cherished memories, reminding us of the person's presence, their essence, and the moments we shared.

So, why not celebrate these quirks while we still can? Why wait for the void to make us realize the value of what we had? Life, in all its fleeting glory, is a celebration of these very peculiarities. It's a journey where every individual is a unique story, and every quirk is a chapter that adds depth to the narrative.

If life is but a temporary sojourn on this planet we call home, shouldn't we make the most of it? Shouldn't we rise above our petty grievances and embrace the quirks that make each person unique? After all, in the grand scheme of things, isn't our time here just a blink of an eye?

As we navigate the complexities of human relationships, let's challenge ourselves to look beyond the surface, to see the person behind the peculiarity, and to cherish the memories we're creating. In a world rife with negativity, let's be the beacon of positivity, love, and acceptance.

In the end, we must ask ourselves: Do we want to be remembered for our judgments or our acceptance? Do we want to leave behind regrets or cherished memories? And most importantly, when our time comes, how do we want to be remembered?

Life is fleeting, but memories are forever. Let's ensure we're creating memories worth cherishing. After all, isn't it the peculiarities that make life truly beautiful?

Do you agree that we should ignore a person's peculiarity and celebrate it?

  • A. Yes, every individual is unique & we must celebrate them

  • B. No, peculiarities cannot be tolerated, forget celebrating
