THE SUBTLE ECHO: UNRAVELING THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN SOCIETY'S GREED

By P Mohan Chandran

In the complex fabric of society, every thread interweaves with another, creating an intricate pattern of interdependence. One such intertwining thread is the relationship between men and women. This dynamic often subtly influences societal behaviors, including one of society's most prevalent challenges - greed.

Greed is a universal vice, not confined by gender, race, or age. Yet, it takes different forms in different individuals. For instance, the desire for exquisite jewelry, a wardrobe full of the latest fashion, an exotic holiday, or an upscale lifestyle might manifest more frequently among women.

To cater to these desires, men, who traditionally have been the primary earners in many societies, can feel pressured to amass wealth, sometimes resorting to unscrupulous means such as bribery, corruption, or unethical business practices.

It's important to note that this narrative is not about laying the blame on women. Rather, it highlights the integral role women play in shaping societal norms, behaviors, and values. It's about the significant influence women hold over their families, communities, and ultimately, the nation.

The echoes of women's desires, when magnified by societal pressure and expectations, can reverberate throughout the society, subtly pushing individuals toward a path of greed and corruption. If the echo can be softened, if the desires can be tamed, society stands to benefit immensely.

This begins at the very core - the family. Parents, especially those raising daughters, bear a significant responsibility. They must instill in their children the virtues of modesty, contentment, and a sense of responsibility toward the society and nation.

Women have an innate power to shape societal norms, and they can use this power to instill values of integrity, honesty, and contentment in their children, families, and communities.

Indeed, while it is often said that behind every successful man there's a woman, the opposite can also hold true. A woman's influence can both build and break a man. Therefore, it becomes crucial for men to choose their partners wisely, focusing not only on physical attributes but also on character, virtues, and values.

But the responsibility does not lie solely with men. Women, too, must rise to the occasion. They must recognize their role and influence in shaping societal norms and values. They must use their power to curb the greed that stealthily fuels corruption.

The task is challenging, no doubt. It involves confronting societal norms, breaking free from the shackles of consumerism, and fostering a culture of contentment over greed. It involves embodying the virtues they wish to see in society, in their children, and in their partners.

But the question remains, are women worldwide willing to take up this Herculean task? Are they ready to help stem the tide of corruption and greed? Can they help reshape societal norms to foster integrity, honesty, and contentment?

The answers to these questions will not only determine the future of individual families but could significantly influence the destiny of our society and nation. It's a profound responsibility that beckons to be undertaken, a subtle echo that seeks to be softened.

Do you think a man's corruption is fanned by a woman's greed?

  • Yes, because of women's greed, men indulge in corruption.

  • No, men are inherently greedy and corrupt.
